Non Verbal Analogy - Identify One Element Of Both The Related Pairs

Identify One Element Of Both The Related Pairs: These type of questions based upon analogy consists of four figures I, II, III and IV in the Problem Set and four pairs of figures marked A, B, C and D in the options. The two figures on each of the pairs in the Answer Set are marked I and IV. It is required to select a pair of figures from amongst the options such that the figures I and IV of this pair may replace the question marks at positions I and IV respectively, in the Problem Set so as to establish the same relation between figures III and IV as that between the figures I and II.

Illustration: In the following question, there are four figure marked I, II, III and IV which constitute the problem set and four figures marked A, B, C and D each further consisting of two figures marked I and IV which constitute the options. Select a figure from the options, the contents of which may best substitute the questions marks in problem set such that fig . III is related to fig .IV in the same way as fig .I is related to fig . II.

A

B

C

D

Answer : D

Solution: On analysing the options we see that if we replace figure I and figure IV with the question marks in the problem set we find that figure III is related to figure IV in the same way as fig .I is related to fig . II. The elements in Figure I gets rotated through 90 degree in anti clockwise direction and the element that was black turns white and the white element turns black and Figure II is formed. On applying the same rule on Figure III we get Figure IV. Hence Option D is correct.

II.

A

B

C

D

Answer : C

Explanation : On analysing the options we see that if we replace figure I and figure IV with the question marks in the problem set we find that figure III is related to figure IV in the same way as figure I is related to figure II  The elements in Figure I gets vertically inverted and the form of upper element of figure II . A new element with number of sides equal to two more than the existing element appears as the lower element of figure II. As we see that the element in figure I has four sides so the element added in figure II has 4+2= 6 sides. and Figure II is formed. On applying the same rule on Figure III we get Figure IV. Hence Option C is correct..The element in figure III gets vertically inverted and the form of upper element of figure IV. As we see that the element in figure III has three sides so the element added in figure IV has 3+2= 5 sides.
